Description

Jim Al-Khalili in his book Life on the Edge, uses a musical metaphor to describe the transport of a photon in a photosynthetic system. First the photon is captured by a pigment molecule, it is then whisked through a chlorophyll forest to the reaction centre by becoming an oscillating exciton. He imagined the pigment molecules as instruments playing in an orchestra and the exciton as the tune being carried along.
