My fascination with clay began in 1976 when I attended classes and very soon set up my own studio in Shakaskraal, KZN. I worked in stoneware, according to the Leach tradition, and made functional pieces which were fired in a reduction atmosphere in a gas kiln.
For the past 13 years I have been working in porcelain. Everything is hand thrown on the potter’s wheel. Forms are classic and simple and glazing is a continuous exciting experiment. I love the way the glazes combine and flow and react with one another and with the clay.
Pottery has become a way of life and, apart from my own research, I attend many courses, classes and workshops and take part in exhibitions in order to gain a deeper understanding. I am a member of Ceramics SA and have received awards at the regional and national level. My work is included in the Corobrick Collection as well as in various private collections in South Africa and internationally.
I am inspired by the Beauty in all of creation. My wish is for my work to be a reminder, in some small way, of the natural beauty which surrounds us and is part of us.
